1/100 Kyrios

This is part of the gundam 00 group build on hobby fanatics
There sure are a lot of rubber parts on these 00 gundams. I don't want to deal with wondering how the rubber will react with paint/top coat/thinner/hobby cement etc, so I'm just going to make it easier to insert later after everything is done. Thankfully all it takes is a little trimming of the rubber to insert/remove them.
Circled here is little bit I've cut off allowing it to be inserted, and still stay inside
Now I can take care of the seams without worrying about the rubber getting owned.
And I did the same with the rubber on the chest, though this time I had it into 2 pieces
And it was simply a matter of inserting it and prodding it with a toothpick
Also removed some pegs to allow the parts to be removed more easily and filled in some holes

Looks like good work on the mods so far. I think your build is one that a lot of people can learn from, so keep us up-to-date!

I hate those rubber parts... On my Exia, I replaced them all with clear plastic parts and spring cables... I'll probably do something similar for Kyrios when I get to that stage with mine. ^^; Interesting mods on those parts though.

more cutting to be able to insert parts
All of these involve making "C" joint mods to holes so that they are in the shape of a C, like this one which wasn't modified but is the design in putting together the shield.

Kyrios is probably the worst of the 00 kits for seam lines so far.
That‘s not exactly damning, since they`re generally very good, but it`s a pain. I`ve got a second one on the go now for a commission, and it`s hard not to try and mod huge swathes of it like I am my own one.
How do the polycap joints hold with the "C" shape? The Hobby Japan build did the same thing, but I worry it`t get loose quickly.

Virtue and Dynames must be the worst offenders since the forearm can't be separated above the joint
The joint seems pretty stable, but I haven't done it for any major parts like the knee joint or arms

Ah, Virtue and Dynames I'm going to cut the thing down the middle, putty the sides and then insert a peg into... the "sheathe" will hide it nicely.
Kyrios's shoulders and calves bugged me personally though? I've been cutting loads of thin styrene sheets to cover the shoulders and scribed panel lines down the middle of the legs. Means I didn't need to do the "C-joint" thing for the wings, too...

Speaking of which, do you still have the rubber tree the light blue cables came from? I was orginally going to paint the tree to see how it would react, but I forgot and have disposed of the runner already.

I didn't try painting Kyrios's, but paint holds surprisingly well to the ones from Dynames and Exia, I tested them for my Exia Trans-am. However, the second the rubber flexes, naturally, the paint cracks...
EDIT: I tested with lacquer paint, btw.

Good idea, but doesn't work for the flexble parts on the arms

In the lineart of the 1/100 model released in Hobby Japan, there's a shot of the nose cone having actual sensors and other doodads. I tried to replicate that. Who can guess what parts I used?

Hmmmah. This little thingy within the shield looks too short. Also, I can't tell if it's supposed to be some sort of energy spike or a heated blade. Either way it's ugly to me.
So....trimmed a bit of an expired credit card and shaped it into an impalement sort of spike. Knot Punisher anyone?

I'm trying to finish this before August now
So there are 2 ways to sharpen V fins. Sand them or add epoxy onto the ends into a point. For this kit I decided to sand it. If you look at this picture you can see that if you were to imagine a line that cuts across, the end will be a sharp point. Then it's simply of a matter of sanding the excess away.
So, I made a little mark and sanded the plastic until the mark disappeared
Again with the main V fin
Third picture shows 1 side sharpened

I see some of teh white got to the 2nd layer of tape. That's not good.
Blue part looks good though, let's hope the red part is goood
