1/100 Sandrock (ver. VP)
« on: August 23, 2010, 12:40:23 am »
Hey guys, for this project I will be starting on my very first resin kit, VP's Sandrock Custom.  I've always liked this suit's sleek and dynamic design and I happened upon a VP recast during a recent trip to Hong Kong so I figured I'd give it a try.  I'm going to stray from the Endless Waltz version's colors and am going to use the colors of the original suit sans red.  I'm going for a modern look, but I want to keep the essence of Sandrock.  In coming up with the scheme I was trying to be careful not to get too Nu gundam-y, or Deathscythey but I might have failed in that regard.   What do you guys think?

Here's one with red in the normal places.  Which is better?

As always C&C appreciated!  Thanks for looking.

Hey, just a quick update.  I test fitted the resin parts and everything seems okay, but a little loose.  Maybe that just how it is with resin, eh?  The only issues so far are the v-fin being a little warped and the forearm not fitting together too snugly.  I saw a video where the person used a blow dryer to soften up the resin, then used two flat surfaces to sandwich the questionable piece straight.  Might try that.  Anyone have experience with that method?  Here are a few pics of what I have so far.

As far as the color scheme, I've been getting a lot of great feedback and ideas from people.  I made another scheme that is closer to the original, still not too sure about it though.  What do you guys think?  C&C always appreciated, thanks for looking!

Be very careful with the high dryer :'(.  Can if your too hot with, cause more than just warp.  But the method you describe is how it is done.  What I suggest is sandwich the object and heat the material while between the for ex: glass sheets and then let air cool.  Should take it out, but again, be careful of how hot you get, you could loose detail!

I say just apoxy the arm together and mask for painting (which you will probably have to do with resin anyway), and just construct a new v-fin yourself or try soaking it in hot water for a sec.  Or boiling water if you try it with a crappy test piece and are careful and quick.

Thanks for the tips, I'll give it a try.

Yeah, the arm is the biggest issue right now, but that seems like a good solution.  Thanks for the suggestion.
