[ASK] Need help on model kits
« on: April 11, 2010, 02:50:21 am »
Hi all, I`m new here, and i`m started to interested in Gundam kit..

I`m confused, that which should i choose? 1/144 Model, or 1/100 model? What I want is, a cool model, but have challenge when modeled (needs better skills) I`ve seen my friend 1/100 saviour, and it`s complicated, I liked it though, but I just only need a not very expensive (below 22usd) for my first model, i know in that price, I`ll get an 1/144 model, but if there`s any 1/100 in that range, please tell me :)

And more, do 1/144 have joints? (If you ever bought a "rubber" gundam wing in 8-9 years ago, and that`s it)

And, I`m sorry if I posted in wrong place, but nice to know this forum :D

Hei, nice to know another "victim" as fallen into the trap. (hehe, kidding)  ;D If U wanna know the price range of most Gunplas on the market, U might wanna check www.dalong.net, the price listed there is on yen, so U can calculate them on US soil. U can get some 1/100 for $20, but the options are not much. 1/144s do have joints, exceptions for first/ old grade models.

If U have other questions, feel free to ask the forum.

Is there a particular Gundam model you are looking for?  You could go that route too.  Find a particular one you like, then choose the grade.  For someone new to the hobby, I'd recommend a 1/100 HG.  They aren't difficult to build but they will give you an idea of what you can expect.  1/144 are good, they can have some great detail for that size too, but they won't have the poseability or mobility you may want.

let's say..
grade is works in this way.
1 / 144 HGUC, Seed, Seed Destiny, 00 = around late 10's to late 20's ( Xcept HGUC Dendrobium :o and some new larger Kits. )
1 / 100 Master grade, Seed, Seed Destiny, 00 = middle 20's ( usally Seed or Seed Destiny. MG normally start at mid 30's ) to hmmm can go over 100 range
1 / 60 Perfect Grade =  no more to say $$$ range.
there's more grade but i will skip it..

u have to search around to find lower price.
or if u find anything ask around at forum if they are reliable or not..
research research.. :)

if u need tip for what i do.
pick a kit that look good to u then search on that one..
it will be alot easier then just looking for Gundam kit.

have fun hunting.

To answer your questions - yes, all but the very cheapest of Gundam kits (i.e. certain kits in the $3-$5 range) have moving joints.  They're not all up to the current standard - some will give you 90 degrees (or less) bend at the elbow, or things like that...  As bayunto_samba said, it's worth checking Dalong if you're interested in how much flexibility a kit's joints provide.

To me the question is all about what I want to build, and what kits are best suited to building those things.  For instance, the MG Zaku v2.0 is superior to the v1.0 in just about every way - but I still prefer the old, nearly-immobile 1.0 because I think it looks better.

In general I think I'm starting to move away from the 1:144 stuff a bit...  It takes me time to finish a kit, and so I think it's usually worth the extra money to start with the best kit available...  And often (not always) the bigger, more expensive kit is the better one.  On the other hand, of course, there are more subjects available as cheaper, smaller HG kits than in 1:100 or MG...  For subjects like Geara Doga, 1:144 is really the only game in town.
