about gundam decals

is it neccessary to put it? does it always make gunpla look good?

decals on a kit is soul-ie up to the person building the kit if he wants them on or not. Just like how it is up to you if you like the colored plastic or painted look or have seam lines removed and nubs cleared or not. Of course decals will look great if applied to your kit correctly. But at the same time I do not remember suck markings on most mobile suits in the anime.

the only thing that's frustating, is that when you screw it up by accidentaly scratching it... :-[
carefulness is needed when aplying decals..

for me... its a MUST!!!! there's something missing on the kits without it - the SOUL itsellff. lol  :D

it melts the decal and make it conform to the irregular surface beneath. when properly done, the decal will look like it was painted on instead of stickied on.

softener & setter are use to level and eliminate those edges which is visible to the eyes...

you can check http://gamerabaenre.com/ - his one of the member here... he got website teaches you these and other basic skills you need to learn from airbrushing... it helps a lot.
