1st time painting.
« on: February 12, 2010, 12:49:55 am »

sry for the lack of quality.

but my question is that how do i get about covering the gray plastic knee joint. I can't really paint each part separate as i would need to seal the seam lines, but to do so i would need put the pieces together, so i would be force to paint the armor with the joint.

instruction with some sort of pictures would help a lot as i'm obviously i have no prior painting experience. Im currently practicing on random gundam parts, i found from when i was very young so mostly broken or missing parts.

hi friend, i c your point..... well, since your doin fix things first before paint.... well, the best thing you can do is going to the hard way.... you need to use a masking tape for modeling kits like tamiya or other brand.... to cover the white portion, before you do airbrushing.... this is always how to do...

hmmm.... i always go to the paint first before assemble the kits so that you cn't miss-out some parts to paint it... and less disappointment.... cheers....

Right... The best approach is to paint some of the parts (like those joints) prior to assembling the leg.  :)
When the going gets tough, the weird go pro.

well what im trying to say is.. i want to paint the white a different color. the joints can stay gray it wont really make much difference.

so am i suppose to paint all the parts separately before assembly, if so how would i go about covering seam lines... they are very visible on the cheaper kits, and sometimes on the MG as well. so wouldn't i ruin the paint job around the seam line with the sanding?

What most people will agree that works best is Remove the seam on the knee then paint it (or any other patrs that will be sandwiched between two other part). After that cover it in tape, but make sure you do it in a way that you will be able to remove the tape when you are finished. Then attach the remaining pieces glue and remove seams. The tape will protect the knee from paint and sanding. If you look at my gm that is what I did to paint the legs. The other option is a lot of modification to the parts so they can be assembled after paint but some times that is to much of a pain. By the way what are you building that looks kinda like a tallgeese leg.
in battle the winner isn't always decided by who has the better strategy, but but who has the bigger gun and most ammo.

yeah its the leg of a tallgeese, i was looking through some old beginner type kits 1/144 and remember that a friend bought me a talgeese I and II which was actually the same exact kit, with the other having a extra head so its pretty much a white talgeese II which was most disappointing actually that Bandai wouldn't even bother molding the blue plastic pieces, and just use the same white talgeese I part and put on a new picture on the box just because it was a cheap beginner type kit.

actually since i have 2, was going to mix the built talgeese with a wing zero, and wing gundam parts, (both wing gundam were broken in multiple areas) to learn using putty and simple mods. (the current idea of how it would look like is quite interesting lol) then i would use the extra talgeese as painting practice. after that i'll work up to SD, HG, HG 1/100 and finally my MG's.

so yeah... I was just coving up the seam with liquid putty on the upper leg part, then as i was gonna put together the lower leg part, it just came to me that the gray plastic joint would get painted as well... but if if i color everything before hand i wouldn't be able to cover up the seam lines.

i just try and tape it and such and see what happens.
