1/100 MG Gelbrecht
« on: January 07, 2010, 03:59:03 am »
Hey all,
I haven't quite wrapped up the V'Trall project yet, but while I'm working on redoing the backpack to add another large thruster and such, I've felt the overwhelming desire to start a new mech I've been thinking on lately.  I will call it the Gelbrecht.  I'm using a MG Strike I.W.S.P. for the skeleton, and I have so far scratch built a head (I did use a spare pc ball joint part), made a decent enough line drawing (which will need to be updated with my newer ideas from today and such, and made the basic armor for the mech's right leg.  I did use the ball joint from the foot also to connect my scratch built foot.  All parts are removable and castable, with the exception of the knee.  But the parts do all fit together and allow full range of motioin so far.  Oh and the anklets are scratch built also.  I didn't use the old ones as they are flimsy and such.  Not enough room there also to add to another piece.  Made more sense to make new ones.  I have once again used the idea of calf thrusters with air intakes on the sides as I think all mechs that fly would have this as part of the design.  My scribble sketch is the most recent idea of what the Gelbrecht will look like, but the chest won't come out quite as far as in the scribbling.  I might make the crotch piece light up blue also to stick with my theme of lighted power cores.  I also think it might be a lot of fun to engineer a way for my scratch built cockpit to open and move.  Well for the moment this is what I've accomplished.  Again it is freezing in our garage, so I am cold as crap, but it has been worth it so far.  Oh and I think I'm going to give him a giant laser eye on this headdress along with maybe a small vulcan, and he will have a rifle and a large sword, similar to what the jinn's had on seed.  I was going to use the I.W.S.P. backpack and just take the parts I liked and use them, but what I built broke when it fell on the ground so I will just probably scratch build one.  This should give me the opportunity to make the joints stronger.  I am using mainly just styrene for this project, and using the apoxy to fill when it's needed.  I am looking forward to this project a lot, and hopefully I can finish the V'Trall relatively soon.  Enjoy!

Thats cool bro. I'm fond of them but we all have different tastes. I know it's a bit different. They aren't done yet of course just basic shapes, but I understand. Thanks for lookin. I can't wait to do the crotch and chest armor. It will start to take shape then. Or not, but I think it will look pretty sweet. Here's hopin.

Today I made the crotch armor and the main form of the backpack. This weekend I'm looking forward to the chest, the arms, and the shoulders. The backpack does come on and off like the iwsp pack, with the help of a brass rod, a small shaved flat rod of styrene and a little ca glue. Well I'm falling asleep. Enjoy!

To answer your question friend I have used many different varying styrene architectural model building supplies. Styrene square rods, styrene cylinders, styrene u shaped rods for the vents, a couple of cut outs from sheet styrene. I don't know what gunpla plates are but I assume that they are similar if not the same thing. I dunno of course but like I said I buy plastic in mostly rods and just glue them together to make wider pieces. This way I can maintain straight lines without tedious cutting. Sometimes I do it the hard way like on the backpack, but I prefer to save time when I can. Hope this helps.

Yeah man. Same or similar to the plastic used for gundam kits I believe. Probably the same as your pla plates.

Today I had to go back and work on finishing the basic shape of the chest.  I took off the larger side parts in favor of thinner ones.  I made the basic shape of them with E 400 plumbers apoxy, and then capped it with styrene.  I drilled out four little barrels and put four chest heavy machine guns, and left the chest at that for today.  I started on the arm today.  I did the bicep armor, part of the wrist armor, and the basic of the elbow parts.  I still need to decide which way I want the elbow piece to go on, but after that I will add a small vulcan barrel, and some small parts that will wrap around the elbow skeleton, providing more armor.  The back of the hand armor needs doing as well as the shoulder.  I decided ichiboy was right and the head sucked, so I might just use the Hi Nu gundam head and make some minor mods.  It fits well and I like the proportions.  I will change the fins I think.  Bigger most likely.  I still need to finish shaping the quad armor and add detail it, and the hip skirts need to have thrusters and intakes added to them.  (or it since I've only done one so far.)  I think instead of jet wings I will add something similar to the F-91 wings or like the blaster impulse wing/guns.  More angular though.  I really do like angular parts as they get away from the too organic feel, not to mention they are a little easier to make and recreate.  I like where this model is going and if I can successfully make the wings like I want, I will be quite pleased.  The right side of the body will be made as much as can be by casting the other side.  This will also give me a leg up in casting since the molds will be half made when I get there.

Realy like it :D the head was... diffrent, not bad but just diffrent it had it own style tough. It was a good idea to show a lot of inner frame wich seems skiny with those huge armor/thrusters. I realy dig the chest desgin, for me it has that WWII fighter-esque feel to it. Keep it up bro!
With enough tape anything is possible!

Thanks Aulon. This is the space type, I am making a second set of chest and backpack armor for ground type. I was going for heavy armor. I'm glad you enjoy it. I do like the hi nu head more though. I'll probably cast it and change it up some. Thanks for the input. :)

ichiboy thanks as well, I use e-400 plumbers apoxy for harder to shape things and to fill, and various architectural styrene for smooth surfaces and angles. Thanks for the positive feedback and interest you guys.
