Making Gundams hold weapons from other kits....
« on: November 28, 2009, 06:30:34 pm »
Man, anyone got any tips/pointers?
I got a 1/100 HG Wing Zero Custom just so I could give its twin buster rifles to my Wing Ver Ka., but it's not going so well. The handle is too small for the hands. It seems to be made for mal-formed freakish hands. The Master Grade hands are too perfect. ha

but seriously...

:D hmmm... why not switch hands after all,  since you using the rifle to fit your need. unless other wise you're be able to customize the rifle handle?  ;)

I thought of that, but I feel more like making surgical changes instead of painting. Almost gotten sick of painting now.

Do you have a method for customizing/bulking up the rifle handle to fit the hand?

Hi, so first question your gonna use the two-riflle beam from MG zero o your Ver-KA right? then you mention that ver-ka hand won't fit exaclty on the rifle's hand coz it small?... becoz, most of the modeler's i know when customizing method or extended some portion of it, they trying to cut the portion and insert metal pins and put some putty, then sanding it. make sure you have all necessary materials before doing this method...

you just have to interchange hands or use manipulators

Try a dab of clear cement on the gun grips? I know my two MG gundams (Freedom and Destiny) both have slight ridges on the palms to hold their weapons, and I could see how that would make it difficult for them to hold something meant to lie flat against the palm. Otherwise, the only Gundam I have "outsourcing" its weapons right now is my girlfriend's 1/100 Heavy Arms, which is carrying some sort of BFG from the Eva Unit 01 Experimental kit, but that's a different problem...

Rap a heap of masking tape around the handle until its a 'snug' fit then paint the tape a close color to the rifle. Once you want to switch back just remove the tape...

If you are bent on making a rifle fit in a set of manipulators that is too loose, you could try filling the inside of the grip with apoxy or putty, putting the rifle in the hand when it is still malleable, (either leave the rifle in or take it out, up to you and depending on how wide the rifle handle is at it's base) and wait for the apoxy to cure.  The apoxy should maintain the shape of the rifle handle.  Then just shave off the waste and smooth out the surface of the hand.  Hope this helps.
